Special Promotion: 1/17 RI State House Rally for Justice & Accountability-RSVP Exclusive
Show your support for a brighter future for Rhode Island-and our country. More events also coming up on 2/6 and 3/2.
A Happy Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday to all of you (especially those staying out of school for today). On an interesting note about MLK, the famous civil rights leader believed strongly in the link between racial equality and economic equality, which was why he launched the Poor People’s Campaign in the late 1960s after winning major Civil Rights Movement legislation for all people. Though he did not live to see most of it, this later work has inspired many across the country even today. And more to cover on the 2024 campaign season down the road as well.
As has been covered here on the Substack and Medium blog archives before (as well as the petitions on Change.org and MoveOn), the story of Gina Raimondo’s national political rise has come at the destruction of the common good. Public service became public profiteering. Civic responsibility became corporate raiding. The common good simply became a mirage to secure higher ambitions in Washington DC.
On Wednesday, Rhode Islanders are not only going to expose Raimondo for who she truly is, but to peacefully call for a future our state-and our entire country-can be proud of and value. A vision that looks to the common welfare over self-serving, power-hungry career politicians. An event that pays attention to the struggles of fellow hardworking Americans over a highly overrated political hack.
It is time for Rhode Islanders to earn their well-deserved voices in the people’s house for justice and accountability-bundle up for then, or go inside into the State House. It is time the Beltway finally hears us on the record.
If you have friends in Rhode Island, spread the word to them. If you are in organized labor or in a grassroots organization, progressive or conservative, encourage them to publicly endorse the rally and have their members show up in force. If you want to show your support with a truck or car, feel welcome to give us a loud honk. If you’re angry at what Raimondo did, for example to Eleanor Slater Hospital, or other issues of that sense, also come and join us as a team.
Or just share these posts (and the RSVP registration sheet for those who are committed to joining us then).
Let’s do everything we can to pack the People’s House and make your voice heard loud and clear. We want a government that works for us. Show up on January 17 if you can, and be sure to be ready even more for the larger rallies and protests coming up on February 6 and March 2 on these many issues.
