Happy Monday, as a Friday government shutdown looms, courtesy of the GOP.
Recession fears springing up, markets tumbling down, NASDAQ correction, trade war with Canada and Mexico, tariffs galore, Ukraine abandonment along with abandonment of the international order and the NATO alliance, price increases across the board, Musk dismantlement of the government, measles outbreak (no Bobby Kennedy, this is not normal at this level), possible government shutdown (4th for Trump in 4 years). As Billy Joel might say, “we didn’t start the fire”; they did.
Promises Made, Promises Broken (including Day One promises for lower prices, immediate relief, and end to the wars in Ukraine and Gaza). Instead, we get a newly promised “period of transition” for all of us to…enjoy?
Seriously though, Republicans are trying to blame Democrats for a potential government shutdown. But they miss a few things. They control all the levers of power. Democrats had similar majorities in 2021 and were able to fund the government. Why can’t Republicans do it now?
Besides, as Congressman Brendan Boyle said, we are technically already under a shutdown because of the Trump-Musk Co-Presidency. Especially since they want to keep the government open just so they can continue to hack it up with their chainsaws.
Stay tuned for the next post on Thursday. Feel free new subscribers in the meantime to look over past articles on Jake Tapper, the Joint Address, Democratic Salesmanship, and MAGA’s attacks on public broadcasting.
Great post as always, Mike! Short, sweet, and to the point!
